Mounted shooting is a fast‑paced equestrian sport where riders navigate a set pattern on horseback while using single‑action revolvers loaded with black‑powder blanks to burst balloon targets. It combines speed, precision, and horsemanship, challenging competitors to hit ten targets in the correct sequence while racing against the clock.

Joining USMS is simple and open to riders of all experience levels. To become a member, choose your membership type, and complete the online registration. Once you’re a member, you can compete in sanctioned events, earn points, and participate in clinics and practices across the country.

USMS welcomes riders of all ages, with divisions designed to keep things fair and safe.
A rider’s Buckaroo age is determined by their age on January 1 of the season.
Adults (12+) compete with certified blanks in the main match.
Senior Buckaroos (10–11) and Junior Buckaroos (under 10) have their own classes and do not shoot live blanks. Buckaroos may be led through patterns, and helmets are recommended.
